McRoskey Airflex Mattress Company Leads the Way Offering Fire-Resistant Products Compliant With New California Legislation - National Mattress Safety Standard will Be Modeled After California Standard

Making mattresses safer than ever for the home, McRoskey Airflex Mattress Company announces the introduction of product compliant with new California legislation TB 603 (The California Bureau of Home Furnishings and Thermal Insulation Technical Bulletin 603) requiring all mattresses, box springs, futons and foundations manufactured and sold in the state of California to be open flame resistant. Effective Dec. 1, 2004, one month before the California standard takes effect, McRoskey will replace all product in its California showrooms with new fire-resistant mattresses and box springs that meet the legal requirements."This new standard will make mattresses safer than ever for consumers, as our products will be designed to resist ignition, giving people time to recognize fire danger and escape," states Robin Azevedo, President of McRoskey Airflex Mattress Company, a 105-year-old San Francisco-based manufacturer and retailer.
"While continuing to build mattresses and box springs with the same high-quality fiber fillings?cotton and polyester?we will introduce barrier materials similar to those used in the clothing of firefighters, which are flame-resistant." In addition, the new legislation requires the law label on all mattresses and box springs manufactured on or after Jan. 1, 2005 to state that the piece conforms to the open flame resistant requirements of TB 603.

"Consumers should therefore look for this label and read it to be sure that they are buying a TB 603-compliant product," adds Azevedo."Furthermore, the Consumer Product Safety Council, a federal regulatory agency, is also advocating the implementation of a national safety standard modeled after TB 603 to reduce the flammability of mattresses. This proposed federal standard, also known as the American Home Fire Safety Act, was introduced into the House of Representatives earlier this year. While this legislation has not yet been enacted, this news nevertheless attests to California's high requirements for its mattress retailers and manufacturers.""McRoskey is thus extremely pleased to offer customers increased safety, without compromising the luxurious nature and comfort of our high-quality products," comments Azevedo. The McRoskey Airflex Showrooms in San Francisco, Palo Alto and Los Angeles retail mattresses, box springs, mattress pads, linens, dog mattresses, and down and synthetic pillows and comforters. The Palo Alto store is located at 220 Hamilton Ave. (tel.

650-327-1966); the Los Angeles store is located at 111 S. Robertson Blvd. (tel. 310-278-8191); and the San Francisco store is located at 1687 Market Street (tel. 415-861-4532).

A Guide To Air Beds

People hear the words "air beds" and instantly think of those rather uncomfortable plastic mattresses that are often used on camping trips.
But air beds are so much more than that!
In the most common of terms, an air bed is a mattress that contains air bladder chambers, filled with air to provide support, rather than the coil string systems that are traditionally found in mattresses.
Did you know that air beds were originally created for use in hospital and medical environments, as they provide a higher level of support and reduce pressure points on the body?

There are several reasons why people select air beds over conventional mattresses.
Chiropractors claim that air beds are good for people with back and back support problems.
For couples, dual adjustable air support chambers provide each partner with just the right amount of back support and firmness on one side of the bed without disturbing the other partner's sleep. A Guide To Air Beds

Why Buy Latex Mattresses When Memory Foam Offers More For Less?

In recent years, a number of new mattress technologies have come onto the market. Two of the most popular types are memory foam mattresses and latex foam mattresses. Both memory foam mattresses and latex foam mattresses seek to solve a problem that most people are familiar with, the tossing and turning that most of us experience in bed.

Most of this tossing and turning is caused by a process referred to as pressure point arousal. When we lie in bed at night, our body always rests more heavily on certain areas called pressure points.

A side sleeper has pressure points located at the hip and shoulder, for example. The purpose of both memory foam and latex mattresses are to reduce these pressure points, by distributing pressure over a wide surface area.

Memory foam has the additional benefit of conforming very closely to the body, and actually "filling gaps" between the body and the mattress surface. Memory foam accomplishes this in part through the...
